My Story

Dec 2011 (190lbs)     Aug 2012 (150lbs)

I fell in love with gymnastics at a young age and did it competitively through my adolescent years. I was working out 20+ hours a week and never had to worry about what I ate. This was great because I loved my carbs and sweets! In August 2009, I moved away from home to go to college my physical activity level went to 0 and I continued to eat the way I always had. I ate a diet made up of mostly unhealthy, processed foods. In January of 2011 (my sophomore year of college) I found myself weighing in at 196 pounds, the heaviest I had ever been. I was unhappy and had no energy. I new I needed to make some changes. I started doing cardio a few times a week and joined Weight Watchers. By May 2011 I was down to 180 pounds and feeling better about myself. At this time, I decided to cancel my Weight Watchers account and continue to diet on my own. That did not last. By December of 2011 I was back to 190 pounds (the first photo above). Anyone who has struggled with their weight knows what it feels like to be unconformable in your own skin... it is not a good time. I knew I needed to make some permanent changes to my life to get healthy.

On January 1, 2012 I vowed to make a lifestyle change. I started eating a pretty "clean" diet and working out 5-7 times a week. I used the app 'My Fitness Pal' to track all the calories I was taking in and to track my workouts (I highly recommend this app/website and still use it to this day). I kept my caloric intake around 1600 calories a day. I become obsessed with the gym and found myself looking forward to my daily cardio and weigh training sessions. By June 2012 I was down to 150 pounds and in (what I thought) was the best shape of my life. I had gone from a size 12 to a size 6 in just 6 months and was so happy with myself. I even wore a bikini for the first time in years without feeling self conscious (ladies, you can relate to this)!!

Like I said before, I had become obsessed with working out. I wanted to challenge myself even more when it came to fitness. I had heard talk about this new fitness program called CrossFit. I did some research and decided to check out one near my hometown. On July 17, 2012 I walked into CrossFit Saol for the first time and fell in love.

Let's fast forward to NOW (2013). I am still OBSESSED with CrossFit and train 5+ times a week. I continue to eat a "clean" diet and keep my processed food intake to a minimum. I have recently started doing some CrossFit competitions and love it! I have put on some weight due to the muscle I have gained from CrossFit, but still fit into my size 6 just fine (the scale can be deceiving people, I'll get into that another time haha). I feel great and love the healthy lifestyle I live and want to share it with out all! I will be posting my daily meals, some workouts, and my advice on how to live a healthy lifestyle!
